About me
- Graduating Class:
- 1979
- Degree:
- EE & CS
- Bio:
Software Executive (VP, Director, or Sr. Mgr depending on the firm's size) with successful experience at PayPal, Napster, Lucent, Visioneer, and more. First a quintessential engineer and secondly an avid community and team leader, I love the consumer, enterprise, and online space, with a special emphasis on digital media and Web 2.0. I regularly speak and make the media on two diverse markets: DRM (Digital Rights Management) and the Last Mile Problem.
I lead client or server based groups and international development teams. I am versed in SDLC techniques from Waterfall to Agile. I can present to the Board on the same day that I am hands-on with the product. I know the value of focus, quality, customer loyalty, and how to scale a business to the tune of 1 million new customers a week for 100 weeks (Napster). I can tie together products and services from disparate business groups (Lucent). I have seen two customers fight over the last copy of 'my' SW on the shelf at Fry's on Saturday morning (Visioneer). And customers love me (back).
Here's an email quote from an executive peer who worked with me recently: "Peter, your enthusiasm and can do attitude was infectous and your energy and resourcefulness saved the day."
I have chip level experience (S3), embedded systems (uRocket, Visioneer, Lumina), communications (Lucent, Yipes), DRM (TailWind, Napster, uRocket), millions of shipped client applications (TailWind, Napster, Visioneer, Go, Gammalink, Datacopy), and Internet services expertise (PayPal, TailWind, Napster, Socialtext, Lucent).
I have a BS in EE & CS from Princeton University where also I competed on the crew team four years. I still row and serve on the board of www.gobair.org. One of my references suggests that I have the equivalent of an MBA and a PhD in CS from my years of pedigree startup experience. I also have a PhD in Traffic School from the California DMV.
Specialties:
Software Engineering, Team Building, SW Architectural Management, SW Client Development, DRM, Content Security, Online Services, Web 2.0, P2P, Embedded Systems Development, Corporate Governance.
